How To Find Your Key Number For Master Lock Padlocks

When it comes to Keyed Padlocks, padlocks that opens primarily with a key rather than a combination, one of the most critical pieces of information if your existing key number. This key number is the identifier that determines the specific key designed to fit into and you open your lock. At The Lock Source, we've made it easier than ever to find your key number and match it to the correct lock. Whether you're replacing a lost key, adding more locks keyed alike to your current padlocks, or ensuring your security system is seamless, this helpful guide will walk you through how to find your key number for all Master Lock products.

Where to Locate Your Key Number

Key numbers for Master Lock products can typically be found in one of the following locations:

1. Stamped On The Key: Most original factory-made Master Lock keys have a number stamped on the key head. This number is usually the unique identifier for your lock (i.e., the cut of your keys match the pins in the cylinder in the lock). Common examples include:

   - Numeric Key Ranges such as 2001-2997 or 3030 through 3999.

   - Alphanumeric Key Codes such as 10G001 or 400K001.

2. Stamped on the Lockbody: Some locks will have the corresponding key number engraved on the body, often on the back of the lock near the key hole. This is especially common for locker locks - such as the Master Lock Nos. 1525 & 1630 Series Padlocks - and smaller brass padlocks.

3. Original Packaging or Documentation: When customers struggle to find their key number the first thing we always ask is if they have an original box the item came in; if not, an invoice or pick ticket as many distributors list key numbers on their tickets (as does The Lock Source); or if they can contact whoever they bought the lock from because there's a good change they know (or should know) the key number they sold to you.

Also, if you ever purchased a lock as part of a set or kit, the key number is often printed on the packaging or paperwork.
